Already nine years ago, I arrived on the small island of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea to settle there. Excited and enthusiastic, my adventure began there, and it felt so good. Everything new and everything different. New people, a different culture, and different values and norms. A favorable climate, both financially and meteorologically.
A lot happens in those 9 years. I become an
orphan. I move no fewer than 15 times in Malta, I start a romantic relationship
with Szilvia, but lose it again; fortunately, the friendship with her remains.
I also start traveling more, and Szilvia and I set up a Bed and Breakfast
business, which I eventually leave. I buy a bicycle and a scooter. I am
currently working on getting a license for a small motorcycle.
I meet locals in Malta, but manage to form
a superficial friendship with only a handful. They are pleasant acquaintances
and we have fun together, but I also want to share our mutual deepest thoughts,
talents, and humor. I want people in my life who, just like me, look forward to
our next meeting. I have known this desire all my life, but only recently dared
to acknowledge it.
Spending the Summer Over
Now I live on that small island of Malta
and feel increasingly strongly that I miss my children and grandchildren; I see
them too little. I would also like to meet my Dutch friends more often. All in
all, quite difficult now that I live so far away. I also experience prolonged
periods of extreme heat more frequently during the summer months in Malta. That
is why I am in the Netherlands during the month of August. Whereas people used
to spend the winter in southern Europe, currently I am spending part of the
summer in the Netherlands.
Under milder Dutch weather conditions, I
enjoy meeting my (grand)children and Dutch friends and acquaintances. Going out
with them, to beaches and restaurants. Cycling together and hanging out on
terraces. Swimming in lakes and rivers. Talking about life.
Experiencing the unique solar eclipse of August 12 together with my (grand)children and also with various neighbors, and going to Haar Zuilens Castle in the early morning hours of August 13 with my youngest daughter, her boyfriend, and a grandchild to get a good view of the annually recurring shooting stars in the pitch darkness.
Baking cookies with my youngest daughter and a grandchild, skateboarding with my eldest daughter and both grandchildren. Went swimming with my son and visited Amersfoort. I am spending the last week of my summer break with Szilvia. We are enjoying the beautiful city of Amersfoort and also visiting Amsterdam. Furthermore, I am enjoying the beautiful, green Dutch landscape……
A home / my base
A new phase in my life is beginning. I want
to be closer to my family and Dutch friends, and to do so, I also want to live
closer to them. I want to experience a home there, to have a base. That is why
I am looking for accommodation in the Netherlands.
I am a father and a friend, and I want to experience that in my homeland...
